Bleed between stems — what's realistic, and what helps

Perfect isolation from a stereo recording isn’t physically possible — some bleed between stems is normal, and cymbal-heavy recordings are the hardest. What helps:

  • Use Best quality for the final render — it’s markedly cleaner than realtime.
  • Gate the offending stem (each stem has a full noise gate) — a little gate on toms or kick removes most audible spill.
  • The transient shaper can push a stem’s attack forward so it reads clearly over residual bleed.
  • If a drum’s attack feels soft after separation, that’s what the transient restorer is for — it rebuilds the natural hit on the separated stem.
